Meet Gina and Matt

We’re Gina and Matt, a husband and wife behind a small, family-owned business based in North Carolina. We’ve been in ecommerce for more than four years, and after playing mahjong, it’s fair to say we’ve become a little obsessed.

Our journey began with Sages of the Past (SagesMahjong), where we built a business around our love of art, history, and culture. NouveauMahj grew from that same love, along with the excitement of discovering a game we wanted to make more room for in our lives.

We love the strategy, the friendships, and the anticipation of gathering around a table. We also love how personal that table can feel. The tiles, the mat, the colors, and the little details become part of the experience.

With NouveauMahj, we want to create high-quality, distinctive products that inspire and endure. Our designs draw on cultural and historical influences, vintage aesthetics, and the natural world, bringing those interests into the setting of modern American mahjong.

Beautiful artwork is only part of what makes a product worth owning. Materials, construction, comfort, and everyday usefulness matter, too. We want the pieces you choose to bring you joy when you first unwrap them and remain favorites through many evenings of play.

We’re a small business with our names behind what we offer. Your questions, feedback, and experiences help us make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

Thank you for making room for our work at your table.
