Supporting Cancer Research

Cancer research is deeply personal to our family.

We’re Gina and Matt, the husband and wife behind NouveauMahj. Our businesses reflect the things we love: art, creativity, and time spent together. We also want them to reflect a cause that matters deeply to us.

Matt has been personally affected by cancer. We lost his mother to breast cancer, his grandmother to stomach cancer, and an uncle to liver cancer. I lost an aunt to uterine cancer. Leukemia has touched our family, too. Each of those experiences is part of why we care so much about supporting cancer research.

When we talk about cancer, we think of people we love. We remember the conversations, the waiting, the hope, and the ways a diagnosis changes everyday life for an entire family. We also remember the people whose presence we still miss.

Our family supports cancer research, including breast cancer research, with hope for better ways to detect and treat these diseases and, ultimately, prevent more families from experiencing these losses. Breast cancer research holds a particularly meaningful place in our hearts because of Matt’s mother, while our family’s experiences have given us reasons to care about progress across many forms of cancer.

We wanted to share this part of our story because it matters to the people behind these shops. Alongside the joy we find in creating beautiful things and gathering around a mahjong table, there is gratitude for the time we have together and hope for what research can make possible.

To everyone living with cancer, caring for someone through treatment, or missing someone they love: this cause is personal to us, too.
